Our Patron

Mr James Toh

Known in investment circles as an astute private equity and property investor, James Toh has been an active supporter of the Singapore arts scene for over 30 years. He was the executive producer and co-creator of Singapore’s first Chinese musical, “December Rains” (written by Liang Wen Fu and Jimmy Ye), first staged in 1996, and subsequently restaged at the Esplanade in 2010 and 2014.

James was executive producer of numerous award-winning Singapore films by director Eric Khoo, including “12 Storeys” (1997),  “Be With Me,” (2005), “My Magic” (2008) and “Tatsumi” (2011).  His foremost passion is to support uniquely Singaporean content.  In 2007, James produced “881,” a highly successful film directed by Royston Tan, which was adapted into a theatre musical and staged by Toy Factory at the Esplanade in 2012.

More recently, James was executive producer of an original play by Ovidia Yu entitled “Kwa Geok Choo” directed by Goh Boon Teck, staged in 2022 at the Victoria Theatre.

In 2023, James was granted the “Patron of the Arts” award by the National Arts Council.  He has been Patron of Resonance of Singapore Ltd. since before its inception.
